In latest news, Gay cop John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) is set to come out to his new LAPD partner, Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie), is an early fall episode of NBC's Southland. Viewers will get to see more of his private life in the new season. Michael suspects that Officer Sherman will be just fine with the news, and believes that troubled alcoholic Officer Dewey (C. Thomas Howell) has already known about Cooper for some time. The show will also be casting members of Cooper's extended family.

In the news, Southland's Second-Season Premiere has been delayed by nearly a month. The show, which was originally set to begin new episodes on Friday September 25, 2009, will now kick off its sophomore run on Friday October 23, 2009. The move will allow NBC an extra four weeks to promote the show during the very crowded fall premiere season.

Amaury Nolasco has exited "Southland" after filming three episodes and will be replaced by Clifton Collins. Nolasco (Prison Break) signed on to the gritty cop drama as a regular last month to play the aggressive new partner of Regina King's Det. Lydia Adams. No reason has been given for his departure. Collins (Star Trek) will play a new character named Ray Suarez, who is still being fleshed out.

Clifton Collins Replaces Amaury Nolasco on Southland

One month after it was canceled by NBC, TNT picked up 13 episodes of the critically-praised cop drama Southland (seven of the episodes aired last season on NBC). TV Guide Magazine talked to executive producers Chris Chulack and Ann Biderman about their show’s second chance, which premieres Tuesday January 12, 2010.

The Second Season will have two new detectives—Clifton Collins (The Shield) and Laz Alonzo (Fast & Furious). Tom Everett Scott is not a series regular, but he’s back for several episodes. In the six new episodes, there are secrets revealed, alliances and heartbreak in the characters’ personal lives. In the first new episode, there’s a real big event on the street that happens to Chickie (Arija Bareikis), John (Michael Cudlitz) and Ben (Benjamin McKenzie) that’s pretty exciting and pretty scary.
