In the news, "Desperate Housewives" will replace Nicollette Sheridan with another blonde. The new neighbor who will be moving into Edie Britt's house is none other than "The Young and the Restless" actress Rebecca Staab. Accompanying Staab in the house is fellow soap star David Chisum from "One Life to Live".

Relationship and name unknown, the duo will be introduced on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in the first of eight-weekly vignettes which is also promoting Sprint Mobile. ABC Soaps in Depth reported that Staab and Chisum will make their debut in the fifth episode airing Sunday October 25, 2009.

In the news, Kathryn Joosten, a two-time Emmy winner for her role as feisty neighbor Mrs. McCluskey on "Desperate Housewives", has lung cancer – and she plans to do everything she can to fight it. The actress, 69, who already won a bout with lung cancer in 2001, broke the news to her "Housewives" producers Monday morning as she expects her shooting schedule could be interrupted for treatment. "They're totally supportive," she says. "I said, 'If you want to put it in the story line, do it! Tell anybody you want, because the public's going to know."

Kathy Najimy will play a police officer investigating an attack on Wisteria Lane on an upcoming episode of "Desperate Housewives". Executive producer Marc Cherry says that Najimy's character and Teri Hatcher's Susan went to the same high school, where Susan stole her boyfriend. Najimy's episode will air in October 2009.

Emmy Award-winning "Desperate Housewives" actress Kathryn Joosten, 69, underwent surgery Monday October 5, 2009 morning in Los Angeles to remove a cancerous growth on her lung. According to Joosten's rep, the actress's doctors believe the cancer was well contained – and that the surgery was a complete success.

Dan Castellaneta, who voices Homer Simpson, has been cast as the pilot of the small plane that will crash into Christmas trees and kill people. The accident will be caused by a series of mishaps involving Dan’s character and his shrewish wife, played by Caroline Aaron.
