Will Saffron Burrows replace Julianne Nicholson on Law & Order: Criminal Intent next season?

USA is in final talks to green-light the show for a ninth season, but Nicholson, who has played Det. Megan Wheeler for three seasons, won't be back. Burrows, who co-starred on the ill-fated "My Own Worst Enemy", is the front-runner for Nicholson's job, the report says. Burrows would play the partner of Jeff Goldblum's Det. Zach Nichols.

USA is 5-for-6 with renewals this season. Is Criminal Intent next?

A rep for the show's producer, however, would not confirm the report, telling TVGuide.com that no deals have been finalized for Season 9.


Too bad Julianne is out!

Hi all,


Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian will leave "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" during the upcoming ninth season.

Their exits follow that of castmate Julianne Nicholson, who will be replaced by Saffron Burrows. Burrows and Jeff Goldblum, who joined the show last season, will now headline the procedural. However, a source told TVGuide.com that deals are still being worked out for all the actors to return next season.

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" is refreshed with the arrival of a new captain in the ninth season. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, known for her recurring role as Anne Cassidy on "Without a Trace" will join the show as the successor of Captain Danny Ross who is leaving after three years in his position. There is no name of the character yet.

The ninth season will be debuted on USA Network in March 2010 with a split season.
