Angry NBC Cancels!

Hi all,

"Southland" has been canceled before its second season even started, TVGuide.com has confirmed. As first reported by THR, the NBC and Warner Bros. police drama had been slated to premiere Friday October 23, 2009 at 9/8c. But it shut down production after NBC executives said the show's content was too dark and gritty for broadcast TV, particularly at that hour. It debuted in the spring on Thursdays at 10/9c, the timeslot vacated by "ER".

Production was to stop after six episodes, but no airdates for those episodes have been scheduled.

Crap!

Red face Regina King / Stunned By Cancellation!

Hi all,

TV Guide Magazine was finishing up a photo shoot and interview with Regina King to promote Southland's new season, when she received word from her publicist that NBC had cancelled her critically acclaimed show just days before its second season was to have premiered on Friday October 23, 2009.

After guiding a tour of her childhood haunts in L.A.'s real Southland, King sat down over lunch and voiced her deep concerns over NBC's failure to promote the show.

King was extremely proud of the work she and her "Southland" co-stars have done on six unaired episodes. "The first episode is so freakin' good!," she said about the second season premiere, which was to have featured a guest spot from former San Diego Chargers/Oakland Raiders football star Sam Scarber as a menacing character.

King said her character, Det. Lydia Adams, would get a new partner named Ray Suarez, played by film actor Clifton Collins Jr. ("Traffic"), and hinted that Lydia was headed for a steamy romance with another cop—perhaps Ben McKenzie's Officer Ben Sherman. "You're not going to expect who Lydia ends up with," teased King. "The writers are finding moments where the line between a detective and a police officer cross." Too bad viewers may never get to see what develops.

Crap! Such a disappointment that they cancelled!

Thumbs up May Be Picked Up by TNT!

Hi all,

There is rumor swirling on the web that "Southland", the cop drama which was canceled by NBC last week, will be coming back, only this time on TNT. Talks between its production company Warner Bros. TV and TNT reportedly were advancing.

Following the abrupt cancellation, John indeed has shopped around "Southland" in hopes of finding a network which is willing to air the show and perhaps pick up the drama for another season. TNT becomes its possible new home for the show because the network shares a corporate parent with Warner Bros. TV.

Fingers Crossed!

Thumbs up Two Networks Interested!

Hi all,

Two networks are interested in picking up the cop drama "Southland", says the show's executive producer, John Wells. Wells called Southland's actors last week to tell them he's in talks to find the show a new home, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While Wells didn't specify which networks he's had discussions with, TNT has been interested in acquiring the series and is the most likely contender. If a deal is made, it's unlikely that filming will resume soon. The buyer would run the first season's seven episodes and six produced for Season 2 to create a 13-episode freshman season.

Awesome!
